Who We Are | Talking Points

What does the contribution to The Club Foundation cover and what is the player responsible for?

Any club that makes the requested contribution to The Club Foundation during the 2008 year is eligible to designate a player for the event. This is not a registration fee. A registration fee would violate the amateur status guidelines of the USGA. The USGA has reviewed the CMAA NAtional Club Championship guidelines and has verified that amateur statue issues have been properly addressed.

The player is responsible for all costs related to travel and accommodations, including transportation to and from The TPC Sawgrass, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. The details of concerning room pricing, ground transportation, practice rounds, tournament schedule and costs associated with spouses and/or guests may be found online.

Does the event protect my amateur status?

Yes, CMAA has taken great care to ensure that the format does not violate amateur status rules as set forth by the USGA and contained within the "Rules of Golf" as set forth by the United States Golf association.

Can a club pay for its designated club champion's expenses (travel, accommodations, ground transportation, etc.) to participate in a tournament without affecting the player's amateur status?

The USGA Rule 4-2c states that an amateur golfer may receive expenses when competing in an individual event only if the expenses are approved by and paid through the player's state of regional golf association. Contact your local golf association for more information.

What is a current club champion is unable to attend?

If you current club champion is unable to attend, your club may send a champion from a previous year or a runner-up in the tournament. If neither is available, you may send one of your club's scratch players with a single digit handicap. It is up to each individual club to designate who they will send to the event.

Our club championship will not be held until Labor Day Weekend. Can I designate the player at that time?

Certainly. Players must be designated by October 15, 2008. However, please be sure to register your club no later than September 15, 2008, in order to secure your space in the tournament.

Can my club send more than one player? Specifically, we would like to send both our men's and women's champions.

Certainly. Any club that makes the requested contribution to The Club Foundation is eligible to designate a player for the event. A qualifying club may designate multiple players for the event, but is limited to one player per division (Championship, Senior, Women's)
